This week, Times Square Store played host to the new opening of the Pop Tart store. The brand store offers every little thing from Pop-Tarts cuisine to build-your-own Pop-Tarts. The rent for Times Square is massive at $ 1,000 per square foot, but Kellogg’s has not decided yet if the shop can be permanent.
Inside the Pop-Tarts store
Pop-Tarts World offers just a little bit of everything. The cafe at Pop-Tarts World serves up Pop-Tarts sandwiches, Pop-Tarts-covered celery, even Pop-Tarts topped cinnamon rolls. A vending machine stocked with 23 Pop-Tarts flavors allows customers to create their own pack of Pop-Tarts, at $ 1 per pastry. Finally, the build-your-own Pop-Tarts bar lets you create just about any Pop-Tarts topping and flavor that you are able to think of.
Pop Tart store for brand visibility
Kellogg’s said the Pop-Tarts Store got opened up because they wanted to show that Pop-Tarts is a “mature brand”. Sales lately have been flat for this breakfast bar pastry. In 2009, Kellogg sold $ 481 million worth of Pop-Tarts.
Baking your own Pop-Tarts
If you’re not anywhere near the Pop-Tarts shop in Times Square, that doesn’t mean you’ve to go without customized Pop-Tarts. Pop-Tarts at home are less expensive and healthier than the repurchased ones. It takes less than 20 cents per pastry and no high fructose corn syrup to make your own. In a food processor or bowl, combine 2 cups of flour with 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon salt. Mix in 1 cup butter, 1 egg, and 2 tablespoons milk. Roll out the dough and cut it in Pop-Tart sized rectangles. Spread half the rectangles with jam, chocolate, cinnamon sugar or whichever filling you like. Use the un-spread half of the rectangles to top the filling, then seal it by pressing the edges with a fork. Fridge the filled dough when you preheat the oven to 350. Bake the Pop-Tarts for 20 to 25 minutes.
