It is said that the tortilla was created by an enterprising peasant who was faced with a very hungry king. Whether that is true or not, evidence shows that people were making tortillas back in 10,000 BC. They were made of the native corn, which also made up a major portion of the Aztec food choices. People ground up the corn into meal, which was made into a dough and shaped into tortillas.

Wild grasses were hybridized by the indigenous populations to produce large, nutritious kernels that we now know as maize or corn. More than 42 different types of corn are grown in Mexico today. Each variety will vary according to where it is grown, weather conditions, altitude and farming practices.

Corn tortillas are a part of many Mexican recipes. Since tortillas are eaten every day, Mexican families will either buy tortillas or make them at home by hand. Tortillas are used to make many different recipes from tostadas and taquitos to enchiladas and soups. The tortillas do a great job holding everything together.

Tortilla factories can produce 60,000 tortillas per hour thanks to the machines that automate the process. Corn tortillas are low in fat and contain calcium, fiber, and potassium. Flour tortillas contain B vitamins and iron. Eaten daily, tortillas help provide nutrition to all members of the family.

Mexican food is eaten all over the world, so providing enough tortillas is important. Having them produced in factories makes it easier to provide as many as are needed to make flautas, quesadillas, chalupas, and burritos all over the world. Two large factories were recently built in Japan and China to help supply the tortilla needs in Asia. Another prime market is Europe. While Spain has always had their own version, they also have another name for them. In Spain, tortillas are omelets.

Start making your own easy Mexican recipes by choosing simple dishes. Recipes that use tortillas are usually fairly easy. You can use them to sop up liquid in soup or sauces. You can use them to hold other ingredients together or as an ingredient to add to another dish. They are very versatile.

You can serve tortillas as main dishes, appetizers, side dishes, or desserts. They can be used to make sandwiches like wraps or even peanut butter and jelly. Since they have fewer calories, they are often chosen for lunches and other meals to provide a bread option even if you are not making a Mexican recipe.

In Mexico, many families still make them by hand at home, but they can also get them at the market or from vendors in the street. Most of Mexico eats corn tortillas, though northern Mexico prefers flour tortillas.

Tortillas keep well. They do not spoil easily like many other types of bread. They are versatile and can be used with both sweet and savory dishes with excellent results. They can also be cut up and fried to make chips.

I loved every minute of it. I went from one subdivision to another just to pass time while biking. It also helped me sweat too much hehe, thanks to the speed that I used to keep while biking.

Yes, it was long ago and I really miss doing it that I am planning to buy a new bike for me. Good thing my husband Johann also loved the idea of us doing it because we seriously have a lot of exercising to do hehe.

I am now scouting for great bike deals because I want to enjoy my weekends outside. Just a great option and break from all my blogging activities.

Yesterday I tried my hand in frying BESUTO Prawn Crackers. Has anyone remember this cheap crunchie?

Well, the last time I munch on this krispy crackers is when I was in my college years. I stayed from one apartment to another in Dapitan, Sampaloc and with that is my struggle to budget my allowance.

So whenever I’m strapped for cash and I need to make money sound food choices, I go for cheaper (yet tasty alternatives) and for a snack, I turn to (some) sandwiches and yes, Besuto Prawn Crackers.

It was a good thing that we were allowed to use the gas and some kitchen tools so we get to fry it for free (guess it was inclusive in the monthly rent rate). But I haven’t experience frying this since my boardmates usually volunteer to do the act. So there.

Anyway, flash forward to what happened yesterday. Since it was my first time to fry Besuto, I did some mistakes (too much heat in the pan) that made my sunnex spoon melt.

Not only that, some pieces burned on the pan that I have to take the pan out and use another one. I was so embarassed because my husband is just beside me as we were both excited to have it for a snack.

I was able to redeem myself by lowering the heat (as for my second attempt) and then I was able to fry better looking prawn crackers then.

Now, I don’t know when will be the next time that I will open another bag and fry this prawn cracker. Maybe after some months or next year perhaps hehe. I hope my husband will forget my kitchen misadventure before we fry the next one hehe.

But that will be a very big challenge for me since a lot of Filipinos here would love to have a lot of onions and tomatoes on their omelet ( but I don’t eat onions) so there, I just cook it like the usual bland scrambled egg hehe.

When I read Sis Mauie’s Lago del Rey experience, I suddenly planned on going there before the year ends. Maybe we can tweak a bit on our venue for our honeymoon.

Why did I fall in love with the place? Well, aside from the truth that I am a true blooded Bicolana by birth, I also wanted for my husband- to- be and I to have another way to spend time together.

We already invaded Sumaguing Cave, went to the cold Tagaytay and spent some relaxing time in Cebu.

In case this CamSur adventure will push through, this will be the first time for us to finally ‘test the waters‘

I am so excited. Have you been to Lago del Rey CamSur lately? Please share your experience when you went there.

I already took a nap while waiting for some movement on the road. I even woke up in the same area where I saw those big billboards along C5 road. Terrible traffic on a Friday night!

I just found out when I plurked today that I am not the only one who is a bit mad about the same thing. I just got some plurk messages that their family members have not arrived yet after being stuck for hours on the same road.

Whew!
