There are times when we have to be practical when it comes to the presents we give to our parents because these are the things that they appreciate the most.

For example, if your mom is pregnant, aside from giving your future brother or sister baby supplies, giving your mom maternity clothes is something that she will appreciate because she needs it in this time of her pregnancy.

Well, I can say this tip is effective since I did it myself when my mom is pregnant with my sister before. Is this something that you are willing to do in the next few days as well?

The Pursuit of Happyness Trailer

I’m watching The Pursuit of Happyness trailer here in Youtube and will follow it up later by watching (hopefully) the whole film.

I have heard a lot of reviews that this is a very inspiring movie, unfortunately I missed watching this before so I am trying my luck this time.

Will Cook Pochero for Husband Tonight

I will definitely cook this yummy Pochero recipe for my husband.

But I would have to use pork instead of beef since I haven’t gotten back to the grocery after a week. So I will just make use of what I have here.

Of course, just like any other tomato sauce inspired recipe, this will be another great chance to appeal to my husband’s stomach and definitely make him fall in love with me all the more.

Mixture of Different Elements

For those who knew me personally and followed reading most of my blogs, you would know by now that I just got married and part of it is starting a new chapter of my life together with my husband. We are now living in a house that we bought and are using some a mixture of modern fixtures like the inspired Moen kitchen faucets, something that is classy like our narra sala set and something funky like the colors that we used to paint the wall. In the next few days I will share a picture of that so that you’ll see how we have chosen these elements to go together in one newlyweds house.

My Besuto Prawn Cracker Misadventure

Yesterday I tried my hand in frying BESUTO Prawn Crackers. Has anyone remember this cheap crunchie?

Well, the last time I munch on this krispy crackers is when I was in my college years. I stayed from one apartment to another in Dapitan, Sampaloc and with that is my struggle to budget my allowance.

So whenever I’m strapped for cash and I need to make money sound food choices, I go for cheaper (yet tasty alternatives) and for a snack, I turn to (some) sandwiches and yes, Besuto Prawn Crackers.

It was a good thing that we were allowed to use the gas and some kitchen tools so we get to fry it for free (guess it was inclusive in the monthly rent rate). But I haven’t experience frying this since my boardmates usually volunteer to do the act. So there.

Anyway, flash forward to what happened yesterday. Since it was my first time to fry Besuto, I did some mistakes (too much heat in the pan) that made my sunnex spoon melt.

Not only that, some pieces burned on the pan that I have to take the pan out and use another one. I was so embarassed because my husband is just beside me as we were both excited to have it for a snack.

I was able to redeem myself by lowering the heat (as for my second attempt) and then I was able to fry better looking prawn crackers then.

Now, I don’t know when will be the next time that I will open another bag and fry this prawn cracker. Maybe after some months or next year perhaps hehe. I hope my husband will forget my kitchen misadventure before we fry the next one hehe.

First Post After Surviving Typhoon Ondoy

Typhoon Ondoy really changed a lot of lives in the Philippines. He left a lot of garbage, mud, water that are still waist deep in some areas.

I never thought that I will experience being stranded in our house’s second floor for days, as we watch the flood waters rise. I am really surprised as everything happened so quickly that our efforts became nothing to save a lot of my parent’s merchandise. This was aside from the appliances and a lot of personal effects that would have been still useful today, if not for what happened almost two weeks ago.

We are still in the process of cleaning the house and exposing our wet goods during the day, hoping that the sun will make it dry. As for the rest, we have decided to throw those away instead of salvaging those items. I was hurt that I have to let go of a lot of things, but what I am thankful for is that my family is still intact. We are really thankful that the Lord gave us a chance to survive this calamity and appreciate more of His blessings.

Earn 50K in your Own Backyard

I am watching ‘Kalye‘ (Road), one of ABS-CBN’s public affairs programs. I found one of their topics blog worthy so I would like to share it with you.

The topic was all about people from the provinces who settle in Metro Manila, hoping to find some greener pastures. They are claiming that there’s no hope to earn money if you are in the province.

This notion was denied by some of their ‘subjects’ who is now earning more than 50K by planting crops and vegetables on their 1,500 square meter farm. Some even make money from their own backyard. The segment showed some of the properties that they got out of their efforts working in the backyard.

See, you can still earn more like a call center manager in the Metro only if you know how to maximize your talent and resources, without leaving your backyard. And that’s what I can consider as a real ‘greener pasture’.

PDEA Agent's Daughter Drugged, Raped or What?

Yesterday, I heard about the PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) Agent’s daughter that was allegedly drugged and raped by members of a certain syndicate.

I was alarmed with the news because this does not only warns us that these things can happen in real life (as some told me that it was like a scene in an action flick) but also a reminder that these bad guys can really do everything worse when provoked.

I tuned in to the news on TV, waited for some updates while I am updating my blogs. Still the same thing featured in the next few hours, same headline was given so I thought, this is for real.

Then the bomb came last night as I watched TV Patrol World. The latest development on the case was that there was no drug or rape case in the first place because that didn’t happen. Then they rolled out the news clip informing the viewers that according to the sworn statements of five minor teens (all guys), they allegedly invited the teenage girl to have some chill time and was unable to go back home after few hours after she got drunk.

To cut the long story short, there was nothing to be bothered about. Just a ‘simple’ case of minors that had a great time, without giving regard to the consequences of doing such.

I’m sorry to say this but I really feel that this should not happen again. I mean, a lot of people were alarmed and bothered, especially the parents who are known to be that protective of their children.

Now that this ‘development’ has been aired, would you think that this will lessen the threat that the parents are feeling of the environment their children are all in?

I know this is somewhat a case of chicken and egg question. Which comes first, for the parents to really impose some rules for their kid’s safety, or for these kids/ teens to practice self discipline in their dealings with other people?

Who was to blame? I don’t know with them. But what I am sure of is that it would have been better next time if these young boys and girls will impose a kind of self discipline among themselves so they won’t drag themselves in these kinds of trouble.

I Like this 'Bulilit' Ad

When I say bulilit, it means, small, tiny. We usually associate it with something cute and pleasing.

But this ‘Bulilit’ TV ad is different. Apart from the overall execution, I like how they simply put the message across. Check out the video below.

This Camella Ad simply means that it is better to house yourself in a real home, well instead of living in condos, just like what my parents consistently told me before.

Living Far from Home

I just uploaded some pictures of the house that my parents bought for renovation. You can check it out on my callcentergal flicker account.

At first, I do not really have that much idea as to what they will use the house for. In the first place, we are already paying the equity of the house that we are suppose to occupy after our wedding in December.

But things changed after realizing how far it is to live in Binangonan if we are going to work in Makati. I estimated the travel time as well as the budget for transportation, I just found out that I need a huge budget for transpo if we will commute as well as a bigger amount to pay for the gas should we have our own car by then.

Well aside from the travel time, I also noticed on our ‘test travels’ that I easily get tired after reaching the ‘place’. I am anticipating that if that’s the case then we won’t spend as much quality time doing things at home if we’re both tired coming from work.

In short, I just asked my Dad if he will allow us to stay in that house after the wedding (the property is under my name anyway) and what we will do is just to pay them a monthly amount until we get to own the property.

As for the other house, we will just have it rented so it can help us pay for the monthly amortization.
